I'm Julia James

I’m a New York-based product designer with over 8 years of experience working on marketplace, SaaS, and ecommerce products with previous roles in brand marketing and product management.

I’m currently a Senior Product Designer at Shiftsmart, a marketplace that connects part-time workers with employers like PepsiCo, Starbucks, and Walmart through flexible shifts. As the first full-time product designer at the company, I’ve led product design efforts across the mobile app and desktop portals, including internal operations tools, customer dashboards, worker onboarding, referrals and rewards programs, and support. I have a knack for finding opportunities through user research and breaking down complex work streams and user flows.

I've previously worked as a Product Designer at InfluxData, Product Designer (Contract) at Juicyorange, Associate Product Manager at M.M.LaFleur, and UX Designer and Assistant Brand Manager at Whirlpool Corporation. Additionally, I’ve volunteered my design skills for IssueVoter and Berrien County Emergency Shelter Services.

Outside of work, I love exploring other countries, the outdoors, and the arts

I'm the happiest when I get to plan my own adventures. Some of my favorite places I've solo-traveled include Canada, England, France, Switzerland, and Aruba. Next up: Japan.
